Security CCTV stuff
anyone have any knowledge on this- I bought a Swann NVR setup with four 1080 cameras for home a couple of years ago and its been great until it died suddenly two weeks ago.

Seems the hard disk has died /wont start and checking sites /youtube it appears to be a regular occurence- tried to get it fixed locally however no luck- so I want to buy a new recorder dick unit- cant get one anywhere they only seem to want to sell it with new cameras and like £400...its a fucking ponzi/scam scam i reckon!

yes i have tried to wife my knob etc etc

anyone any experience/ideas?

cheers

Typical of swan always packs up.
If you brought it from Costco they will refund all your money regardless of how long you had it.

Try HIK-vision so reliable and easy to use.

If you need just a hard drive ADI Globel are the ones they will distribute to anyone.

OK - I was looking at an image on the vendor's website that appeared closest to what you have. Clearly a later version.

You need to decide how much time & money you want to throw at this before replacing it.

Try the "F2" on power-on bit with a USB keyboard plugged in instead of the mouse (You won't need that as you're not yet getting as far as a GUI).

If this equipment is a an "all in one kit" that was bought online or from a DIY shop, B&Q or somesuch equipment then throw it away and buy another kit.

It isn't made to last more than few years.

You might be able to retain the cameras if you buy a recording device from the same company.

If it was professionally installed then ask the people that installed it to have a look at it.

Can you plug a keyboard into the USB port and a monitor/TV into the HDMI port then try whacking the keyboard's "F2" key as it's powering up?
____

No the only inputs are i) an HMDI to plug a TV monitor in ii) a USB that takes a mouse--- this is used to drive the gui that comes up on the TV

It's fun for me, vexy-wexy.

Keep it up - the kids need a clown to keep them amused during the school holidays. Nice of you to volunteer; very social-minded of you.

It's sad, Mike, because it reminds me of an old pensioner trying to remember how to use her TV.

You clueless old wally.

Anything that "saddens" you is, by definition, a very good thing indeed.

You can admit you didn't understand a word - *does veinites* - you won't get pulled up on it.

With luck the system BIOS screen will appear and you will be able to see if it detects the hard drive.

If it doesn't see the drive then you need to open the unit and follow Far Cough's advice.

If you can't/don't want to open up the unit, then a "patch/work-around" would be to get the O/S on a USB thumb drive and point the BIOS to boot up from that. I assume that you will be able then to save images to the USB drive but you won't get much on a dongle, so a spare USB drive (at least 1TB) in the other port for images would be my suggestion.
